Designing a Shopify reviews plugin experience
Designing an intuitive admin experience and customizable review widgets for Shopify merchants.
About Findshop
Findshop is a Shopify plugin that helps merchants build trust by showcasing authentic customer reviews with real photos. The plugin enables store owners to collect, manage, and display reviews seamlessly across their storefronts.
In a competitive e-commerce environment, trust and credibility play a crucial role in conversion.
About the project
The project involved designing the admin backend experience for the Findshop Shopify plugin, along with multiple review widget templates for storefronts. The goal was to make plugin installation, setup, and customization simple—even for non-technical merchants.
Key objectives included:
• Easy onboarding and setup for Shopify merchants
• Clear configuration of review widgets
• Flexible display templates for different store needs
• A clean, intuitive admin interface
Visual language & colours
The visual style was designed to be clean and neutral, allowing review content to take center stage. A restrained color palette ensures the plugin blends seamlessly with different Shopify themes while still providing clear visual cues in the admin interface.
Design concepts
Early concepts explored different approaches to onboarding, settings structure, and widget customization. The focus was on reducing setup friction while giving merchants confidence and control over how reviews appear on their stores.
Review widget templates
Multiple widget templates were designed to support different storefront layouts and use cases. Merchants can choose how reviews appear—grid, list, or featured formats—without needing custom development.
Admin backend experience
The admin experience was designed to guide merchants step by step—from installation to live deployment. Clear navigation, helpful labels, and logical grouping of settings make it easy to configure review sources, moderation rules, and display preferences.
Merchant-friendly & responsive design
The admin interface and widgets were designed to work smoothly across devices, ensuring merchants can manage reviews and preview layouts without friction.
Reflections
Designing for a Shopify plugin reinforced the importance of clarity and simplicity in merchant tools. By focusing on guided setup and flexible presentation, we created an experience that empowers store owners while enhancing trust for end customers.
